CLR -- Bud -- Alfsvaag -- Second Check For New Wells Per Reader -- September 29, 2025

Note: in a long note like this with a lot of new information there will be content errors and typographical errors. I'm counting on the readers to fact-check information on these six wells.

See this note for background; at that link, another link for more background

In late 2025, CLR reported six new wells on a single pad in Crazy Man Creek -- the Bud / Alfsvaag wells.

On that pad, three Bud wells run north; three Alfsvaag wells run south.

On September 19, 2025, the reader received a check for the first three Bud / Alfsvaag wells. That check only covered initial production from the following wells:

  • 41013, Alf #6
  • 41019, Bud #6
  • 41023, Bud #8

Today, September 29, 2025, the reader received the customary monthly check from CLR, which included the three additional Bud / Alfsvaag wells which were not included in the first check, received September 19, 2025.

All six wells are now accounted for:

  • 41022, CLR, Alfsvaag #8
  • 41020, CLR, Alfsvaag #7
  • 41021, CLR, Bud #7

Oil royalties in the most recent check covered the following months:

  • 41023, CLR, Bud #8: one month only for both oil and gas: August, 2025, for oil; July, 2025, for natural gas
  • 41022, CLR, Alfsvaag #8: five months for oil: April, 2025 - August, 2025; four months for natural gas
  • 41013, CLR, Alfsvaag #6: same as Bud #8, one month only, August, 2025, for both oil and gas;
  • 41020, CLR, Alfsvaag #7: four months for oil: May, 2025 - August, 2025; three months for natural gas
  • 41019, CLR, Bud #6: one month for oil, August, 2025; one month for natural gas, July, 2025
  • 41021, CLR, Bud #7: five months for oil, April, 2025 - August, 2025; four months for natural gas;

The six new CLR Alfsvaag wells and Bud wells in Crazy Man Creek and initial production once these wells started producing.

The impact of the six new Bud / Alfsvaag wells:

Of the selected wells the reader has, total production had dropped to less than 12,000 bbls of oil per month, just a few months ago. Two months after these six new wells were producing, the total production of the reader's CLR wells surged to almost 352,000 bbls of oil per month:

The CLR Bud / Alfsvaag Wells Southeast Of Williston -- Some Random Notes -- September 22, 2025

See this post regarding the three new CLR Bud / Alfsvaag wells southeast of Williston (link here).

FIU: federal interests underneath. It means that in addition to private owners, and perhaps state interests, the federal government also has interests.

These are incredibly good wells.

In the Bakken, production is at its highest in the first couple of months and then drops off quickly and than plateaus for two or three years before dropping off again.

In the good part of the Bakken around Williston, production in the first full month max production:

  • 10,000 to 12,000 bbls of oil per month: a very, very disappointing well; not common but not rare, either.
  • 12,000 to 16,000: better, but not that much better;
  • 16,000 to 24,000: commonly seen; and pretty good wells;
  • 24,000 to 30,000: very nice wells; not common;
  • 30,000 to 40,000: very, very nice wells; seldom;
  • 40,000 to 50,000: incredible
  • over 50,000: amazing, rare.

So, what was maximum production for these three wells:

  • #41023, Bud: 60,000 bbls; 59,000 bbls
  • #41013, Alfsvaag: 48,000 bbls; 48,000 bbls
  • #41019, Bud: 52,000 bbls; 42,000 bbls

How do these numbers compare with the Anna wells, highest production:

  • #32967: Anna 7, 19,000 bbls / month; a relatively good well but not all that great in the big scheme of things.
  • #32966: Anna 6, 16,000, a lousy well;
  • #30155: Anna 3, 25,000, but a lousy well;
  • #30154: Anna 2, 27,000; again, dropped quickly;
  • #32969: Anna 9, 16,000; lousy well; now abandoned;
  • #30156: Anna 4, 15,000 and dropped off quickly to the teens and less;
  • #32968: Anna 8, 16,000 and dropped off quickly to the teens and less;
  • #23279: Anna 1, 15,000 and dropped off quickly to the teens and less;
  • #30157: Anna 5, 26,000 and dropped quickly to the teens;

We always thought the Anna wells were "good" wells but they were not that great in the big scheme of things.

The Bud / Alfsvaag wells are incredible, producing upwards of 60,000 bbls of oil per month for the first two months.
