Grayson Mill (Equinor) -- Looking To Put A Section Line Well In Catwalk-Bakken -- November 20, 2021

From the NDIC December, 2021, hearing dockets.

This is a case, not a permit. This simply means that Grayson Mill is seeking permission from the regulator to place a well in this drilling unit.

  • 29097, Grayson Mill Energy (Equinor), Catwalk-Bakken, establish an overlapping 2560-acre unit, 25/36-154-101 and 30/31-154-100; one well; McKenzie, Williams.

See Tucker, parcel 1057

The deed and background:

  • Williams County
  • Catwalk Oil Field.
    • Section 30-154-100
    • Section 30: E1/2NW1/4 less 7.23 acre tract in NE1/4NW1/4, W1/2NE1/4, SE1/4NW1/4, SE1/4 (E2NW4 less 7.23 acre tract in NE4NW4, W2NE4, E4NW4, SE4)

      • Sections 30/31 is a 1280-acre drilling unit.
      • Section 27 is not yet part of a 2560-acre drilling unit.

Within a day or two of the NDIC December, 2021, hearing dockets to be posted, including the case noted above, a reader sent me this scanned copy of an offer for his/her mineral rights in that drilling unit;

Harrisburg 2-27HSL -- Indian Hill -- November 16, 2021

Updates

April 5, 2022: reader says Harrisburg section line well now showing up on statement; started showing up in February, 2022, statement and again, in March, 2022.

April 4, 2022: Tucker / Ekke received division orders this week for the CLR Harrisburg 2-27HSL well, a section line well with 2560-acre spacing.  Production to date:

December 1, 2021: the well discussed below --

  • 37661, 33-053-09474, conf, CLR, Harrisburg 2-27HSL, Indian Hill, fracked 9/17/21 - 9/23/21; 7.61 million gallons of water. 87.388% water by mass;

The reader noted that in his/her November 24, 2021 XTO statement some wells did not produce any oil for the month of September, 2021.

I checked XTO's three Nelson Federal wells on Indian Hill:

  • 20971, 1,087, XTO, Nelsen State 24X-33R, Indian Hill, t9/11; cum 203K 9/21; this is an active well, but it was taken off line 5/21 (May, 2021); it produced very little oil when it was producing;
  • 23761, 825, XTO, Nelsen State 24X-33F, Indian Hill, t2/13; cum 113K 7/21; this well was taken off line 8/21 (August, 2021) and remains off line 9/21;
  • 23762, 1,246, XTO, Nelsen State 24X-33A, Indian Hill, t2/13; cum 253K 8/21; this well was taken off line 9/21 (September, 2021)

The fact that these three wells were taken off line suggests CLR is fracking the Harrisburg site discussed in the original post.

Original Post

1. Continental Resources (CLR) has a 4-well Harrisburg pad sited in NENW 27-153-10, Indian Hill.

2. These wells are still confidential but are due to come off the confidential list this week. Unfortunately because of IT problems at NDIC, the NDIC is not updating scout tickets so even when this well comes confidential list we may not know what is going on for awhile.

3. My hunch: all of these wells, with one exception, will be 1280-acre spacing, sections 27 / 34-153-101 which does not affect Ekke.

4. Ekke has minerals:

  • section 33-153-101, S1/2NE1/4, N1/2SE1/4, SW?

5. The one exception:

  • Harrisburg 2-27HSL
  • I'm pretty sure that HSL = horizontal middle Bakken, section line
  • a section line well is generally spaced for four sections, 5280-acre spacing
  • if so, this section line well run down the section line between sections 33 and 34 of that township
  • those sections are already spaced for 5280-acre drilling

6. If this is all accurate, then Ekke should have minerals in this Harrisburg 2027HSL, NDIC ##37761.

The graphics:

  • the red star: section where Ekke has minerals
  • the black stars: the 4-section drilling unit
  • the big black arrow running south: likely location of the Harrisburg 2-27HSL horizontal bore

Zabolotny -- November 12, 2021

1. Petro-Hunt has a well sited in SE SE section, #37987, a Zabolotny well. It's still on confidential but has sold oil for three months, August, September, and October, 2021.

2. It's on confidential but the name and the location suggest will will run through the 1280-acre drilling unit to the south:
  • sections 4 and 9 -- T144N - R98W.
3. If that is correct, Tucker had a deed for that drilling unit in the Billings County deeds:
  • Section 4: Lot 4, SW4NW4,W2W4
  • Section 9: N2
4. In Petro-Hunt's pay and production statement of October, 2021, this well did not show up.

October 26, 2021: the reader who alerted me to this well, provided this for the archives -- looking back through my records, this well used to be operated by Eighty-Eight LLC ( starting in 2015 - - I don’t know the history before 2015) and then in 2016, Sunoco took over as operator. This is an overriding royalty interest owned by Tucker. Ekke did not have an interest in this well.

Original Post

A reader alerted me to a recent check from "Energy Transfer Crude Marketing, LLC," dated 10/20/21. The well is currently operated by FH Petroleum Corp but payment was handled by the company noted.

It appears the check was for production going back to September, 2020, and through, August, 2021. That would make sense: operators don't have to "cut" checks for any amount less than $100, but must send a royalty check at least annually, no matter how small.

The average price received by the company for the crude oil it sold:

  • September, 2020: $32.13
  • July, 2020: $65.05
  • July, 2021: $65.05

The prices suggest this oil was hedged.

It's hard to believe the reader received any royalties at all considering how little oil is being produced by this vertical Birdbear / Red River well (not a Bakken well, not horizontal)

This well is located out in the "middle of nowhere," even by North Dakota standards. It is on/near the county line of McKenzie County and Golden Valley, near the Montana state line, in the Bicentennial oil field. There are very, very few wells out here.

Here is a screenshot of the scout ticket going back about one year. Note that the vertical well is drawing oil from two formations, the Birdbear and the Red River.

The best thing about this well for the reader is that it holds this "entire" area for future development. Note that the well went inactive in August, 2021. I do not know what this means for this well going forward.

Original Post

A reader asked about a Petro-Hunt Zabolotny well.

My reply:

Your might have a new Zabolotny well.

I often make mistakes but this is what I'm seeing.

I track the Petro-Hunt lease you mentioned at this post:

I often make mistakes, but if I have this correct, chronology:

You told me you received a check up-front for $310 (or thereabouts) for a lease, March 11, 2021.

You said this had to do with Petro-Hunt, sections 4 and 9 -- T144N - R98W.

There are several completed Zabolotny wells to the east (sections 3 and 10) but you don't have minerals in those sections, so ignore.

However, it appears Petro-Hunt drilled a new Zabolotny well that runs horizontally through your two sections, sections 4 and 9, and that was what the lease was for.

The new well:
  • 37987, a new permit, still confidential, November 20, 2020, Petro-Hunt, Zabolotny 144-98-4A-9-1H, Little Knife,
It's still on confidential so we don't know anything about the well but it has started producing and in July, 2021, the NDIC reported Petro-Hunt had sold a few bbls from this well ("runs": oil that is actually sold; since it's confidential we don't know how much was actually produced, but generally how much was sold --"runs" -- is usually about the same as how much was produced):

NDIC File No: 37987     API No: 33-053-09609-00-00
Well Type: ON CONFIDENTIAL STATUS
Location: SESE 36-145-98     Footages: 250 FSL 270 FEL     Latitude: 47.329499     Longitude: -103.100208

    Field: LITTLE KNIFE
Monthly Sales Data:

When checking the deeds, this one is in Billings County.

Note the name of the well:

Zabolotny 144-98-4A-9-1H.

The 144 and 98, T and R, obviously.

4A - 9:   this well will begin in section 4 and run south into section 9 (Carl/Ruth lease).

The "A"? Petro-Hunt labels their pads in each drilling unit alphabetically, so this is the first pad in this drilling unit. In great areas, Petro-Hunt can have several pads with two to four wells on each pad which will be labeled A through D.

1H: H for horizontal and "1" because it's the first well on this pad to be drilled.

This is not a great area in the Bakken but it's not bad. If this well is even "kind of" good, I would suspect we will see a number of more Petro-Hunt wells in this drilling unit.

The "decimal" unit for the Petro-Hunt wells you have are generally very low so I don't expect much in the way of royalties, but you should enjoy watching these wells.

Anyway, that's what I am seeing.

This well comes off the confidential list October 19, 2021 -- next month. If it's been completed and is producing, we will get the information then.

Enerplus Acquires Bruin's Assets In The Bakken -- May, 2021; Enerplus Acquires Hess Wells In Little Knife Oil Field, 2022

January 31, 2023: The reader has 12 -- twelve -- Enerplus wells -- in the spreadsheet below the SC-Foster is not an Enerplus well and the Hamilton is no longer producing so it will no longer show up on production statements.

January 30, 2022: Enerplus acquires Hess wells in Little Knife oil field, Dunn County.

May, 2021:

To the best of my knowledge, Tucker/Ekke had just one Bruin well: the Berg well in Good Luck oil field. See this post.

One of the Tucker/Ekke heirs received a royalty check for that Berg well in June, 2021. At least one other heir did not. Tucker/Ekke heir, apparently notified Enerplus in a letter sent this date, July 5, 2021.

Update: one heir said he/she received a change-of-address form from Enerplus, suggesting Bruin did not do a great job transferring address changes to Enerplus, or vice versa.

Enerplus Wells -- Production

The first spreadsheet posted April 16, 2022, but now new spreadsheets are being posted.

These were all acquired from Hess. Prior to the Hess wells being transferred,

  • Enerplus had the BERG well;
  • Hess retained one well, the SC-Foster well.
