Sherven Trust Wells -- A Reader Has A Question Re: A Letter From Petro-Hunt -- March 31, 2025

A reader had a question about an interest in a Petro-Hunt Sherven Trust well.

The well in question per the letter from Petro-Hunt:

  • Sherven Trust 153-95-27A-26-1HS, T153N-R95W
    • sections 26 & 27 of 153-95
    • section 26: NW1/4 and SE1/4

Reader's deed:

  • McKenzie Deed
  • Charlson oil field:

The Sherven Trust wells that the reader "has" on his production statement and the decimal units for the ones I checked. NDIC file number; name of well; and, decimal unit:

  • 17400, 546, Sherven Trust 27B -2-4H; decimal: 0.00001953
  • 26206, 1,077, Sherven Trust 153-95-27B-2H,
  • 26205, 1,514, Sherven Trust 153-95-27B-3H; decimal: 0.0001953
  • 27375, 984, Sherven Trust 153-95-27D-5H
  • 27376, 1,578, Sherven Trust 153-95-27D-6H; decimal: 0.0001953
  • 30183, 724, Sherven Trust 153-95-27A-7HS
  • 38459, conf, Sherven Trust 153-95-27A-26-1HS, a brand new well; started producing, January, 2025.

Production data for the Petro-Hunt wells was last accomplished in February, 2025, and results can be found here.

The map: done quickly. There may be errors. This section is "a Sherven Trust section" but neighboring Van Hise Trust wells will also be involved (the reader has three Van Hise Trust wells, although I only marked two in the map below. The third is probably another section line well.

Why The Zabolotny Wells Can Be In Two Different Counties -- March 6, 2025

I believe this is correct.

A reader asked how the Zabolotny wells could be located in different counties.

The "Zabolotny drilling unit" is a 1280-acre unit (two sections): sections 4/9 - 144 - 98, Billings County.

The "Zabolotny drilling unit" is inside the Little Knife oil field. The Little Knife oil field is a huge oil field, located in Dunn County, McKenzie County, and Billings County.

With horizontal drilling, it does not matter (in this context) in which county the well is sited. What matters is what drilling unit (sections, acres) the horizontals drain as determined by the NDIC.

The original Zabolotny well was drilled outside the "Zabolotny drilling unit." It was drilled just outside the unit, to the north of the unit, in McKenzie County, and not in Billings County. But the horizontal well ran south into section 4/9 - 144 - 98.

Much later, Petro-Hunt established a five-well pad inside the "Zabolotny drilling unit," near the south line of section 9. There are currently five wells on this pad. Three run south and are not Zabolotny wells. Two run north and are the NEW Zabolotny wells. These two wells, sited in section 9 - 144 -98, are sited in Billings County.

So, at the surface, McKenzie County is involved with the original Zabolotny well, and Billings County is involved with the new Zabolotny wells.
